Ms. Haley focuses her practice in the areas of employee benefits law, employee benefits litigation, employment law and corporate law. She earned her law degree from Georgia State University in 1995, and her B.B.A. degree from Kennesaw State University in 1989. She is a member of the Georgia and Knoxville Bar Associations and a member of the Tennessee Valley Employee Benefits Council. She is a contributing author of the “Age Discrimination in Employee Benefits” chapter in BNA’s ERISA Litigation (4th Ed. 2011) and a contributing author for BNA’s Employee Benefit Law (2nd Ed. 2000). She is admitted to practice in Georgia and Tennessee.

Al Holifield, Shareholder
Mr. Holifield, the founder of Holifield & Associates, focuses his practice areas in employee benefits law, employee benefits litigation, employment law, employment litigation and other related corporate matters. He earned his law degree and M.B.A. degree from the University of Tennessee in 1992, and his B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1988. He has his Certified Employee Benefit Specialist designation through the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Holifield is a member of the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, is a co-chair of the Employee Benefits Subcommittee on Fiduciary Responsibility and a member of the Knoxville Bar Association.
Mr. Holifield is a contributing author to BNA Employee Benefit Law (2nd Ed. 2000) and to ERISA Litigation (4th Ed. 2011). He is the past President of the Tennessee Valley Employee Benefits Council and speaks frequently on employee benefit matters. Mr. Holifield also is an adjunct professor teaching Employee Benefits Law at the University of Tennessee College of Law. Mr. Holifield is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the Eastern and Middle Districts of Tennessee.

Jay Garrison - Shareholder
Jay Arthur Garrison, Shareholder – Mr. Garrison attended the University of Tennessee and received a B.S. in History (with high honors, 1971), and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University Of Tennessee College of Law in 1975. While at the University, he was a Neyland Scholar, a Distinguished Military Graduate, and received the Judge John Greene Scholarship in law school. Mr. Garrison was an officer in the U.S. Army Adjutant General’s Corps. He is Chancellor of the Holston Conference of The United Methodist Church and has served on the Judicial Council of The United Methodist Church. Mr. Garrison’s practice concentrates on Estate Planning, Elder Law and Probate Law. Kelly P. Mann - Associate
Kelly P. Mann, Associate
Ms. Mann focuses her practice in the areas of employee benefits law and employee benefit litigation, employment law and corporate law. She earned her law degree from the University of Kentucky in 2000, where she competed on the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court team. She received her B.A. degree in Government magna cum laude from Western Kentucky University in 1997. She served as judicial clerk for John D. Minton, Jr. in the Warren Circuit Court. Following her clerkship, Ms. Mann joined a small firm in Bowling Green, KY., specializing in insurance defense litigation. Ms. Mann is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, as well as a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and Kentucky Bar Association. She is a contributing author to BNA’s ERISA Litigation 2007 Supplement for “Age Discrimination in Employee Benefits.” Ms. Mann is admitted to practice in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Virginia Couch - Associate
Ms. Couch, a native of Corbin, Kentucky, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee in 1996. She attended the University of Tennessee College of Law where she received the Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell Student Leadership Award and the Certificate of Academic Excellence in Family Law, coordinated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and was a staff writer for Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law. She earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence with a Business Transactions Concentration in May 1999. Ms. Couch has taught contract drafting at the University of Tennessee College of Law since 2009 and is a contributing author of the “Age Discrimination in Employee Benefits” chapter in BNA’s ERISA Litigation.
For more than 10 years, Ms. Couch has represented businesses and business owners in commercial, corporate and business transactions of all types, including new entity organization, asset and stock purchases, real estate leases and purchases as well as advises business owners on governance, litigation, payroll and employment matters. Ms. Couch also owns Barkside Lodge, a dog “resort” in Lenoir City, Tennessee. As a business owner, she has first-hand knowledge of the legal issues businesses and business owners face.
Ms. Couch is admitted and licensed to practice law in all Tennessee courts and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. She is a member of the Knoxville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations.

Since the passage of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”), employers have faced many complexities and much scrutiny concerning executive compensation arrangements and their employee benefit plans. Holifield & Associates PLLC, is comprised of multiple attorneys with years of experience effectively representing entities, maintaining executive compensation arrangements and keeping employee benefit plans in legal compliance with all laws. We are often asked to draft summary plan descriptions and plan documents along with other services for our clients. Our firm represents both local and national clients and represents plans with minimal assets to assets in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Holifield & Associates PLLC, helps clients deal with issues with conserving assets for retirement, long-term care and Tenn-Care reimbursement problems. Our firm seeks to achieve the client’s goals within the framework of clear, concise legal documents and planning for the future. We also handle all probate matters in an efficient manner to minimize cost and time for the client.
